Shay Horner

Started her artistic journey out of necessity

Before being diagnosed with a rare neurological disease that left her partially paralyzed, she was an active member of her community and tennis was her physical outlet, along with being a Chaplain and raising her children.

Following successful surgery on her sacral tumors in 2018, she was able to have some recovery but had to find a new passion.

Art is the thing that became her physical therapy, and pain management. She still has tumors throughout the rest of her spine that can’t be operated on, so she had to find a way to take her mind off of the pain and symptoms of her disease.

That was her reason for starting her artistic journey. What started as a craft and hobby has grown into a true art form. She has had the privilege of learning from some of the best shell artists around the world, who both inspired her and encouraged her abilities.

She wanted to continue to challenge herself and what started with a few shell ornaments and trinket dishes, eventually turned into large mirrors, including for weddings, mosaics, and more.

She also made a custom shell portrait of her granddog, Prince, and started receiving requests from customers to immortalize their pets as well. She never dreamed that this would become a business, and never wants to be so busy that it becomes “work”. Still, she loves making her customers happy and offers her talents, to one person at a time, as she is physically able to accomplish them. This is what makes each custom piece so special. She also still creates her smaller pieces and offers them for sale, as she makes them. She currently resides in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl., where she has been married to Steve for 35 years this year, and raised their two children.
